about
We are a Sydney-based lighting design practice with the essence of Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship.
We consider various factors beyond simply illuminating a space according to regulations. Our team focuses on improving architectural design with light. We evaluate each space's needs and offer solutions that blend beauty, function, and cost.
If the architecture features organic or distinctive shapes, we explore various lighting options using dynamic simulation software. This helps identify solutions that best enhance the design concept and builds consensus among stakeholders.
When lighting artworks, we prioritize the artist's intention and create designs that preserve the original concept. We also focus on viewer comfort, considering factors such as light height, while minimizing unnecessary reflections and shadows.
In aged care facilities, our designs account for circadian rhythms that support the health and well-being of elderly individuals.
Designing with these considerations in mind requires time and effort, but we believe it makes a meaningful difference in the outcome. Moreover, we enjoy developing tailored solutions that reflect the unique characteristics of each project!

While working for a luminaire manufacturer, he gained valuable experience in luminaire design and developed a strong sense of cost-effectiveness. By collaborating closely with the research team, he acquired techniques for integrating technology into his designs, which led to him being awarded patents.
As an industrial designer, Ryo received the prestigious iF Product Design Award, an internationally recognized design accolade in Germany, for a series of luminaires that beautifully showcase the interplay of light and design.
After the 2011 earthquake, Ryo relocated to Australia, where his exploration of diverse design styles provided valuable insights and helped him better understand the unique aspects of Japanese design.
In 2021, he founded ‘LESS IS MORE,’ allowing him to dedicate more time to bespoke designs and applying the design methodologies honed in Japan.
